Read Zones function

Post by G4KWT »

Hi

I am using TransTRBO with a Motorola DM3601 radio.

When I envoke the 'Read Zones' function from the 'Maintenance' tab
the software appears to be reading the zones as I can see it
stepping through them on the radio display. When it has finished
however the 'Add to Favourites' function says that "The Zone Table
is Empty! Please read the Zones from the Radio available from the
Maintenance Tab."

What am I doing wrong please ?

Sorry about the delay in responding. ;)

Hi Will

Thanks for the reply.

The radio is a UHF Motorola DM3601 with Firmware Version R01.12.13, Codeplug Version 13.02.01 and Bootloader Version R02.04.00

The TransTRBO version is version 0.1.0.7

Hi Denis,

I answered this yesterday but lost the post due to network problems :(

The problem is more likely within the App as reading both Zones/Channel and Contacts from the radio is a bit troublesome and may even vary depending on how fast your PC is.

I'm looking at converting XcmpXnl.exe into an approved product being a "Remote Radio Head" and I'll add Zone/Channel reads to it. I would then like you to test it for me and when we achieve success I'll port it into a new version of TransTRBO.

cheers

Hi Will

Will be happy to assist.

For the record the PC is a Dell Precision 490 - Intel Xeon 3GHz - 8GB of RAM - 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium.

Hi Denis,

Thanks for that!

After moving house and swapping from CVS to 'git' (as a Source Version Control System) - I now have most applications compiling happily.

The TTService (upcoming app) load Zones/Channels module seems reasonably stable, so I when I generate TTRRH (TransTRBO Remote Radio Head) I'll add the code to it as a "Trial Zone Download" Button for you to test (as a private download).

If anyone here is used to XcmpXnl.exe and has suggestions about making it a "neat" Remote Radio Head (which I am "approved to produce") please let me know.

FYI: I have a reasonably "nice" VOIP module which would allow human/canned voice to be sent to/from the connected PC.

I will update this thread again shortly.

cheers

Just as an FYI Will, I had this same issue. The zones failed to read from the radio and I got the Zone table empty message. I'm using a Moto XPR 4550 mobile at the moment.

The reading of the contacts from the radio went well though! i had almost 900, and about 10 groups, and it seems to have worked just fine.

Hi Will,
Thanks for the feedback.

Q1. Was the radio "busy" at the time? (i.e. any kind of Radio activity).
Q2. Did you try a couple of times?

Would you also please initiate the command while you are parking on a "quiet" Channel please.

FYI: The radio will supply a number of zone/channel oriented pieces of data - these can be requested directly and reliably - the hard part is determining the "Invisible Zone" and getting the Zone and Channel names.

The method I use is to step through the "Menu" programmatic-ally and parse the results that show-up on the simulated Display.

The worst case scenario is manually entering this info - but for more than just a few Zones/Channels ... well, I'd like to get this working reliably (at least 98%).

BTW: TTService will allow you to manually do the steps that I've mentioned - would you be interested in trying it and seeing if you get different results?

cheers

Morning Will,

To answer your questions -

Q1) I don't believe it was busy, no.
Q2) I tried at least 4 times

I went ahead a tested again, on a simplex channel and a quiet DMR channel. Same results. It looks like it is reading the channel and zone information (ie: I see the info flying across the display on the radio itself as it is reading) but when it is done, Clicking the Read Zone or Modify Zone button shows an empty list. Also, if you click Add Favourites, it gives the "The Zone Table is Empty" error I had mentioned.

Regarding TTService, if it will help you track this down, happy to help. Let me know.

Hi Will,
I'm not up to date on Radio model numbers - so any chance of a picture of the display please or ...
Q1. Does it have a colour display?
Q2. How many text lines does it have?
Q3. Is it using the "newer" display formatting?

Thanks in advance - I may need to borrow a newer radio to check this out.

cheers
